Golden Pelicans Bond

I had no idea as a child that I could regularly see pelicans in Arizona. Going to popular migration spots, you can find flocks or “pods” ranging from two to over thirty of these large birds. I’ve spent a number of sunsets watching them forage for food together and one day I saw this particular trio grooming and huddling close as the sunset. The image of them in the light conveyed a deep sense of intimacy for me. Showing the importance of their bond and familiarity with each other. I imagined the miles they travel together and the adventures they have had along the way going from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. It is my joy to find these graceful birds resting in the oases of the Arizona desert.
