Heron Lamppost

A meaningful image for me, one that reminds me of the power of observation and taking the time to appreciate my surroundings no matter the circumstances. My father had recently been diagnosed with cancer, and we made a goal of regularly walking in the park. As I walked to the front of the park to meet him, the sun set, and I noticed this heron on the lamppost. I watched as groups of people walked underneath, unaware of the beautiful sunset casting a purple light through the afternoon haze to create this beautiful composition. My father would pass in a few short months, but the lesson of appreciating the moment was well learned during this time and has become an important principle for my photography.
